Kempinski Hotels & Resorts is continuing its expansion in China with the signing of a management contract for a futuristic new-build hotel in the cultural centre of Wuxi, eastern China.Ê The Kempinski Hotel Wuxi is the Group’s fifth venture in China, joining other Kempinski Hotels in China in Beijing, Chengdu, Shenyang and Dalian.Ê

Just two hours’ drive from Nanjing and Shanghai, the Kempinski Hotel Wuxi will offer over 400 rooms and suites, including 200 rooms designed specifically for the business traveller. All rooms will be situated in a modern glass tower while the ballroom, accommodating up to 600 guests, separate entertainment centre, restaurants and shops will be in the base podium.Ê

Wuxi is situated in the Jiangsu province of China, with rapid rail links to Shanghai. The city has a population of over 800,000 and is renowned for its beautiful lake scenery as well as its fine silk production. A small, walled city in the early 19th century, Wuxi rapidly replaced Suzhou as the economic centre of the Tai lake basin. The city’s name, which is translated as “without tin,” refers to the tin mines in the area that were exhausted during the Han dynasty.
