RockResorts Secures Cheeca Lodge & Spa Management Contract

RockResorts has secured a 20 year management contract for Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, Florida following the announcement by Vail Resorts of the closing of the sale of the Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, Florida to Cheeca Holdings, LLC, a venture comprised of Johnson Resort Properties and The Falor Companies.


Vail Resorts had previously announced that it would become a 12.5 percent participant in an investment syndicate that had arranged to acquire the property. The purchase, however, was able to proceed without the need for RockResorts or Vail Resorts equity participation. The company said that RockResorts would continue to operate the property on a new 20-year management agreement, but it would not participate in the ownership group.

The Cheeca Lodge & Spa has 203 rooms and suites set on 27 acres of oceanfront property with a 1,100-ft long beach on the Atlantic Ocean in the Florida Keys. Hotel amenities include tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course, two swimming pools, a the celebrated Avanyu spa.

The Avanyu Spa, which takes its title from the Tewa Native American Indian name for a mythical water serpent representing the restorative and life-giving power of water, integrates the use of water therapies with the use of nourishing products from the sea and the surrounding region.
Set amidst the tropical gardens of the resort, the 5,000 sq-ft Avanyu Spa features four massage rooms, an outdoor treatment tiki hut for couples massage, two facial rooms and a wet room with a Vichy shower for salt scrubs and wraps. The resort also has a state-of-the-art fitness studio, a steam room, a spa lap pool and two fresh water pools.
