Alila Secures Management Contracts for Top Bali Hotels

Alila Hotels & Resorts has completed the first step in its strategic ambition to become a recognised operator of select hotel properties by securing management contracts for two of the best-known resort hotels on the island of Bali.


Alila,has taken over the management of The Chedi Ubud and The Serai Manggis, replacing General Hotel Management Ltd (GHM) as the operator. The properties will be re-branded as Alila Ubud, Bali and Alila Manggis, Bali.

Commenting on the new operating contracts, Alila Director, Mark Edleson, says, “Alila’s founders have a long experience in the development of new hotel and leisure concepts, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to apply our philosophy and style to these excellent properties in Bali”.

Referring to Alila’s plans for its new properties, Managing Director, Frederic Flageat-Simon, expands, “We want to achieve a stylish and luxurious environment for our guests by staying at the forefront of lifestyle trends, whether in the design of our rooms and accessories, the cuisine we offer, or our health and spa amenities. We aim to create an ambience that is relaxed, stylish and surprisingly different.
“As part of our re-branding programme, we will retain the existing team at The Chedi Ubud and The Serai Manggis, and work with them to build on the existing qualities for which these properties are well known.”

In addition to his position as Managing Director of Alila, Frederic Flageat-Simon will assume the role of General Manager at Alila Ubud for the time being, and Ms. Amanda Pummer will remain the General Manager at Alila Manggis.

Alila Hotels & Resorts opened its first hotel, Alila Jakarta, in July, 2001. The hotel has already received recognition for its contemporary design, fine dining and cheerful service, which have set new standards for the city’s hotels. Alila Jakarta’s stylish decor and contemporary furnishings were recently acclaimed on the cover of Interior Design magazine (US edition) and provide an early insight into the company’s defining qualities and vision.
All three of Alila’s properties will remain member properties of the Design Hotels selection.
Looking to the future, the Alila management is already negotiating other management contracts to extend its expertise and distinctive style worldwide.
