Sabre Acquires Ownership of South Pacific Marketing Company

Sabre Holdings Corporation, the leading provider of technology, distribution and marketing services for the travel industry, purchased today the Sabre Pacific travel distribution business from TIAS, a travel distribution alliance among Qantas, Air New Zealand and Ansett Airlines.
The purchase will give travel suppliers, travel agents and travelers in the South
Pacific region greater access to Sabre`s global resources and
technology.
TIAS, which stands for Travel Industries Automated Systems Pty Limited, has been a leader in the development of information technology services and business solutions for the travel industry in Australia and New Zealand. Sabre Pacific was originally formed by TIAS in 1992 to distribute Sabre`s
global distribution system in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific under a licensing agreement with Sabre.
Under terms of the purchase agreement, Sabre Pacific now becomes a subsidiary of Sabre. Sabre will make an initial investment in Sabre Pacific to enhance the product portfolio and upgrade the subscriber communications
network. Sabre will continue to work closely with TIAS to offer access to TIAS products for Sabre Pacific subscribers.
“This purchase demonstrates our commitment to the Asia Pacific region,” said Michael K. Baldwin, senior vice president, Sabre Asia-Pacific Region. “With this agreement, Sabre will be able to offer travel suppliers, travel
agencies and individual travelers a broader range of products and services,
including web-based, e-Commerce and customer relationship management
services.”
