Barbuda Council confirms Princess Diana beach

Officials in Barbuda have confirmed they are to name a beach in honour of Princess Diana.

Diana visited the island four times during her lifetime, with the beach set to be renamed in her honour to celebrate what would have been her 50th birthday on June 1st.

A beach alongside the former K-Club Hotel has been identified for the purpose.

“Barbuda became a sanctuary for the Princess and she seemed to find solace in the beauty of the island and the hospitality of the people,” read a statement from Barbuda Council.

“We have been honoured to host the Princess and her family and it brought even more joy when she repeated her visits to our home.

“It is our hope that the Princess Diana Beach will serve as a reminder of the hope and courage that is a significant part of Diana’s legacy.”
