Building upon its track record of innovation in the car rental industry, Avis Car Rental has launched a mobile application for devices running on Google’s Android mobile platform, making Avis the first in the industry to have applications on all four major mobile platforms.

Available for free download at Google Play, the new application allows travelers to use their Android smartphones to make real-time reservations for rentals at Avis neighborhood and airport locations throughout the United States and Canada.

The Avis Android application also lets renters modify, view or cancel existing reservations, access past rental information and receipts, and store profile information, such as their name, contact information and rental preferences.

“Smartphone ownership and usage continues to grow and a recent comScore study ranked Android as the top smartphone platform in the United States,” said Jeannine Haas, chief marketing officer for Avis Budget Group. “We’re excited to add the Avis Android app to our list of mobile offerings and provide millions of Android users with a solution that specifically caters to them. It’s another way that ‘We try harder’ to make the rental experience convenient, easy and trustworthy.”

The Avis Android application extends Avis’ mobile capabilities for travelers on-the-go. In 2007, the Company unveiled the industry’s first online booking tool for Internet-enabled portable devices through an optimized version of Avis.com designed for mobile phones. Since then, Avis has launched mobile applications for BlackBerry, iPhone and Microsoft Windows Phone 7 devices.
