airberlin renews commitment to distribute its full content through Amadeus

Amadeus, a leading travel technology partner and transaction processor for the global travel and tourism industry, announced today that it has renewed its long-term content agreement with airberlin, Germany’s second-largest airline.

The agreement guarantees Amadeus’ travel agents worldwide access to the entire range of fares, schedules and inventory relating to the more than 33 million seats sold annually by airberlin.

“Amadeus is committed to securing long term distribution agreements that bring full content security to travel agencies and ensure stability in the marketplace,” commented Holger Taubmann, vice president Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Europe, Amadeus.

“During 2010 our distribution system generated over €60,900 million in yield for airlines.”

According to the agreement, the fares, schedules and inventory made available through the Amadeus system will be the same, and under the same conditions, as through any indirect or direct channel, distribution provider or website.

“Travel agencies are a key channel of our distribution strategy and an important factor of our growth.

“We are happy to extend our agreement with Amadeus through which we can reach a worldwide network of travel agencies,” said Christian Lesjak, executive vice president sales scheduled services, airberlin.

Amadeus is present in 195 countries around the world and manages a global network of over 90,000 travel agency points of sale.

Many airlines can rely on this network to drive bookings in markets where their direct brand penetration may be low.
