Having just picked up the title of World’s Leading City Hotel at the World Travel Awards, Swissôtel Krasnye Holmy general manager Marc Ohlendorf takes time out to discuss what the title means to the prestigious property.
Breaking Travel News: Swissôtel Krasnye Holmy Moscow recently picked up the title of World’s Leading City Hotel at the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony in Delhi. Can you tell us a little bit about how it feels to have won such a prestigious award?
Marc Ohlendorf: I am proud of my team members who make this happen and I am thankful to all our guests who are so loyal to us – thank you!
BTN: This is not the first time the property has claimed a World Travel Award, with the relationship dating back to 2007. What is it that keeps Swissôtel Moscow ahead of its competitors around the world?
MO: It is like a constant re-inventing. We never stop talking to the team and our guests.
We always try to make something new which makes a difference to the guests.
And of course spend some money on refurbishment - like we currently do in our new presidential suite and our new restaurant!
BTN: Swissôtel Moscow has previously taken titles for its meetings offering. What facilities are on offer at the property?
MO: Beside the meeting and banqueting facilities, Swissôtel Krasnye Holmy has 233 elegantly appointed guest rooms, including 27 suites, with magnificent views overlooking the city.
Further, we have our trendy City Space Bar, which is located on the top floor of the hotel, some 140 metres up, and offers breathtaking 360 degree view of Moscow.
The best and most fashionable cocktails are another reason to come here.
Next, reflecting our commitment to the total rejuvenation of our guests, our Pürovel Spa & Sports Centre offers an integrated approach, combining fitness and relaxation.
The facilities include an indoor pool, gym, sauna and a Jacuzzi.

BTN: Are there any developments planned at over the coming 12 months which will improve the offering there?
MO: As mentioned we will open our new urban food concept on the second floor.
It will be something different for Moscow and I am sure a big success.
Later this summer we will introduce our second presidential suite - and we will renovate the lobby and the executive lounge. This will be an exciting refurbishing year!
BTN: Will you be using the World Travel Award as part of any marketing campaigns in 2013?
MO: It proves to be one of the good tools of marketing campaigns, while it also shows our guests the achievements we made over the past years.
For Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts is it also very important as it illustrates that Moscow and other Swissôtel Hotels are in this exclusive club of highly recognised hospitality!
BTN: Finally, how do you feel Moscow generally is faring at present? Russia has largely avoided the harsher impact of the economic downturn seen in Western Europe. Has this been positive for business?
MO: Moscow as a metropolis is developing fast.
‘Unfortunately’ a lot of new hotels also came into the market. So, the demand is growing – but – inventory as well.
This puts some positive pressure on us to maintain guest’s first choice.
On the long run there is still a lot of potential for Moscow and Russia.
We are opening two new properties this year in Sotchi and in 2016 - the Swissôtel Kazan.
Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts strongly believe in the growth of (and in) Russia!
