Family holidays to drive growth in Dubai tourism sector
His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, director general of Dubai’s Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing has revealed how family-centred travel is emerging a key component of travel to the emirate. Following the release of strong new tourism figures yesterday, he commented: “Our strategy continues to be positioning Dubai as the must-experience family destination: as such we are constantly diversifying our tourism offering and increasing our hotel portfolio to attract, and cater to, a broader market of visitors.”
Chinese visitors drive record figures for Dubai tourism
Dubai’s hotels welcomed more than 5.8 million tourists in the first half of 2014, up around one per cent compared to the same period last year, according to stats released by Dubai’s Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing. Hoteliers and hotel apartment operators saw total first half revenues reach Dhs12.74 billion ($3.18 billion), an increase of 10.9 per cent year-on-year.
Vietnam Airlines signs codeshare with Jet Airways
Vietnam Airlines and Jet Airways have announced a reciprocal codeshare agreement, offering passengers enhanced connectivity and seamless access when travelling throughout the combined networks of both airlines. Under the codeshare arrangement, Jet Airways will place its marketing code on Vietnam Airlines’ flights from Bangkok and Singapore to Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.
Changes of leadership move Coco Collection forward
Coco Collection has welcomed new general managers for Coco Bodu Hithi, the stylish luxury boutique resort in North Malé Atoll, and Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, the barefoot luxury eco-resort in Baa Atoll. At the same time, a new director of marketing at the helm of the marketing and PR team in the corporate head office has been appointed.

Quito takes South America’s Leading Destination title at World Travel Awards
Quito has been named South America´s Leading Destination by the World Travel Awards. This is the second consecutive year the city has won this prestigious award. The Ecuadorian capital was also the host of the Gala Ceremony of this renowned competition, which gathered a full and international audience of leading tourism industry and media representatives.

In front of an elite industry audience at the Centro Cultural Itchimbía, in Ecuadorian capital Quito, LAN Airlines walked away with the title of South America’s Leading Airline, while South America’s Leading Business Travel Destination went to Bogota, Colombia.
