easyJet warns over Brexit costs as passenger numbers rise

easyJet’s network continued to drive passenger growth in the three months ending September 30th, with passenger numbers reaching a record 22 million. The low-cost carrier also recorded a strong load factor of 93.9 per cent. Passengers have benefitted from the low fares across our network with revenue per seat at constant currency decreasing by 8.7 per cent during the quarter compared to this same period in 2015.

easyJet has announced that customers can now use Apple Pay on web for bookings made on easyJet.com. This makes payment a seamless “two touch” process. Apple Pay is already available via easyJet’s iOS mobile app however from today customers will also be able to confirm their booking via easyJet.com on their Apple iPad or Apple Mac in just a matter of seconds thanks to Apple Pay; a secure, quick and private one-touch payment function.

easyJet has launched a new route from London Gatwick to Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia. The new, year-round service commences December 5th and flights will operate four times per week Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Neil Slaven, easyJet commercial manager, commented: “We started flying to Ljubljana from London Stansted in April 2004 and since then it has proved to be a popular destinations for our passengers.”

easyJet has announced a new route from London Gatwick to Åre Östersund Airport, Sweden, which will commence on December 11th and is expected to be popular with skiers and snowboarders. The new route will be easyJet’s first service from the UK to Sweden. When it launches it will be the 32nd country in easyJet’s network and the 107th destination available from London Gatwick airport.

easyJet has today announced that it is to recruit more than 1,200 new permanent and fixed-term cabin crew positions as the airline continues its growth. The carrier, which flies more than 250 aircraft on over 820 routes in 31 countries, will offer its new cabin crew positions across all of its 27 European bases. Around half of these positions will be based in the UK.

easyJet has reported a fall in revenues for the three months to June 30th, as “difficult and uncertain economic and operating environment” takes a toll. Total revenue per seat decreased by 8.3 per cent at constant currency over the period, or by 7.7 per cent on a reported basis, to £54.54 per seat. At the same time, total revenue in the quarter at the low-cost carrier decreased by 2.6 per cent to £1,196 million.
