Austrian Airlines launches new route to Miami, Florida
Austrian Airlines has begun new, nonstop service from Miami, Florida to Vienna, Austria. The airline will operate five weekly, non-stop flights, with a Boeing 777 aircraft, from Miami to Vienna. Austrian Airlines chief commercial officer, Andreas Otto, said: “The addition of Miami shows that we are significantly expanding our service from North America, and now offer a total of 27 weekly flights from six destinations in the USA and Canada in our winter flight schedule.”
Austrian Airlines to inherit Embraer 195 fleet from Lufthansa CityLine
The board of Austrian Airlines has approved the purchase of 17 Embraer 195 aircraft in almost new condition with a list price of close to $900 million. The first jet will already be delivered in August 2015, modified in line with Austrian Airlines standards and used for training purposes.
Austrian Airlines sets date for Manchester arrival
Austrian Airlines will join the other carriers of the Lufthansa Airline Group at Manchester with the start of a new daily service to Vienna on September 10th, 2015. In addition to providing a point to point service to one of Europe’s most frequently visited cities, the new flight also completes access for the Lufthansa Group’s customers in the north of England to the 360 degree onward connection offering across the airline group worldwide network.
Austrian Airlines set to return to profitability after restructuring
Austria’s flag carrier, Austrian Airlines, has said it will return to a cautious growth path after years of restructuring. A new pricing model, new medium-haul fleet, new destinations, the expansion of the business as an operating carrier within the Lufthansa Group and a new red-white-red market image comprise the underlying basis. “The restructuring carried out over the past few years has made us fit again for the challenging aviation market,” said Austrian Airlines chief executive Jaan Albrecht.
Kratky appointed chief executive of Austrian Airlines
Kay Kratky is expected to replace Jaan Albrecht as chief executive of Austrian Airlines following his endorsement by the supervisory board of parent Lufthansa. The appointment is expected to be confirmed on May 12th. Albrecht has accepted the job as chief executive of SunExpress, a joint venture of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines.
Austrian Airlines focuses on leisure marker for summer 2015
Austrian Airlines is presenting its passengers an extensive offering of about 130 destinations in 58 countries during the summer of 2015. Furthermore, this year Austria’s national carrier will increasingly focus on tourist destinations and has added new destinations such as Menorca starting in June 2015 and Miami and Mauritius as of October 2015. The airline is also expanding its North American service by offering daily flights to its destinations in this region.
Austrian Airlines lands at Newark Liberty Airport with new Vienna flights
Austrian Airlines has launched a new route to the US, with Flight OS 089 departing Vienna at 10:15 earlier. The Boeing 767 landed at Newark Liberty International Airport at 13:35 local time, where the aircraft will be greeted by a celebratory water arch before taxiing to Terminal B.
Austrian Airlines expands fleet for first time in seven years
A new long-haul aircraft operated by Austrian Airlines, a Boeing 777-200ER with the registration OE-LPE, has taken off two weeks earlier than planned, departing on its maiden flight today at 10:45 from Vienna to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. The latest addition to the Austrian Airlines fleet is the result of an investment of about €50 million.
Austrian Airlines boosts London flights
Austrian Airlines has confirmed it will increase its flight frequency to and from London. From March 30th onwards the carrier will offer passengers one extra flight a day from Vienna to the British capital and back.
Austrians Call for abolishing airline ticket tax
A clear majority or 58 percent of the Austrians interviewed said they supported abolishing the airline ticket tax. This was the conclusion of a representative survey of 1,000 Austrians carried out by the market research company GfK. 33 percent of the Austrians do not have a firm opinion on this issue, and only 9 percent of those surveyed are for keeping this air travel tax. The airline ticket tax was introduced in the year 2011.
Austrian Airlines takes off on maiden flight to Chicago
Austrian Airlines has added another North American destination to its flight schedule, with the departure of its first flight to Chicago. Flights will leave for Chicago five times a week on a Boeing 767, which will be equipped with the new long-haul cabin.
Austrian Airlines expects 2013 turnaround
The restructuring program launched by the Austrian Airlines Group has started manifesting itself in the corporate results. An “avalanche” of costs arose in 2012 from taxes on tickets and from increases in fuel prices. It amounted to a further €94 million in costs. Notwithstanding this, Austrian, which is the country’s largest domestic carrier, registered an operative loss in the year 2012 of a mere €10.2 million, after removing special effects (2011: a loss of €59 million).
