Parisian security officials have launched a major security operation after an incident at the Louvre.

A French soldier on guard at the museum opened fire on a suspected attacker.

A suspect was seriously injured when the soldier opened fire.

There are no reports of further injuries.

The UK Foreign Office is advising anyone in the area to exercise caution, avoid the affected area and follow the advice of the local authorities

The Louvre has been evacuated.
