Increased passenger and cargo movement during 2014 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix

Following the successful completion of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2014, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) announced the performance statistics for Bahrain International Airport ( BIA ) during the event. Over 300 tons of racing equipment was received and handled in a secure and efficient manner between 30th March and 7th of April.

On the passenger front, the airport also witnessed an increased passenger movement during the same period. In addition to the normal scheduled flights, 30 private jets were received carrying Formula 1 drivers and VIP guests.

BIA ‘s performance during the Formula 1 week was essential in the realization of the world-renowned event and painted a positive image of Bahrain on a global scale. BAC worked closely with its’ partners in the private and public sectors to streamline passenger and cargo movements, greatly contributing towards the success of this sporting event.

Vice President of Airport Operations at BAC, Mr. Mohammed Thamir Al Kaabi. thanked the staff and partners for their collaborative efforts in providing an excellent passenger experience and smooth cargo movement.

BAC is the authority responsible for enhancing BIA and increasing the airport’s contribution to the local economy in line with Vision 2030.
