Gatwick predicts half term boost

Gatwick Airport expects to see a rise of 6% in the number of Brits jetting off for their Spring bank holidays. This year over 550,000 passengers will be enjoying some downtime in the sunny resorts of Spain, Portugal and Turkey or visiting friends and family in Ireland and parts of the UK.

Malaga tops the list of the most popular half-term destinations with around 12,000 Brits heading off from Gatwick to the capital of the Costa del Sol. Palma de Mallorca comes a close second, followed by Dublin, Faro and Dalaman.

Paul Fitch, Head of Terminals at Gatwick Airport said: “The combination of the Spring bank holiday and school half-term offers great opportunities for families to enjoy some quality time together in popular hot spots abroad, or to join friends and family in other parts of the UK.

“For the bank holiday weekend, we expect to handle around 550,000 passengers, which is 6% more passengers than last year. Our focus will very much be on ensuring each and every passenger enjoys a good experience at every step of their journey through the airport before heading off to their chosen destination.”
