US Airways Expands `Web Fares` Distribution

Furthering its commitment to make its lowest fares available as widely as possible, US Airways announced today the expansion of its Web Fare distribution to include all travel agencies that use the Galileo Global Distribution System (GDS), as well as through all other Galileo-connected distribution channels, both online and offline. Prior to this week,

US Airways’ Web fares were only available through usairways.com and select other Web sites.

Customers now can purchase all fares sold through usairways.com from travel agencies that use the Galileo GDS. Galileo travel agents will not be required to pay a fee for access to these fares or to use a specific online booking system. The fares will be made available automatically through standard Galileo systems.

Fares that are available to Galileo agencies include US Airways’ popular E-Savers, which provide discounted seats each week for weekend, and sometimes longer, getaway travel. Earlier this week, US Airways announced a similar agreement to distribute these fares to Sabre-connected travel agencies as well.

“We are pleased that we can work cooperatively with Galileo to significantly expand the availability of our special Web Fares and at the same time control our distribution costs. Through this agreement, we are moving closer to our goal of reducing customer confusion and frustration in accessing discounted air fares,” said B. Ben Baldanza, US Airways senior vice president of marketing and planning. “We believe this agreement brings value to our traveling customers, travel agents, Galileo and US Airways.”

“We applaud US Airways for taking this bold action to restore open access to low fares for all consumers, regardless of where they choose to purchase their travel,” said Mitch Gross, executive vice president of Galileo’s Americas region.
