Port Ghalib opens for business

The new luxury Red Sea resort, Port Ghalib, set to rival UK holidaymakers’ favourites Sharm El Sheik and Hurghada, is now open and fully operational. The 18km coastal resort, developed by the M.A. Kharafi Group, is situated along the magnificent coral wall that stretches for over 400 kilometers along the south Red Sea creating the famed ‘Coral Coast’ of Egypt.

The resort is home to a five-star deluxe and two five-star Sun International hotels, a sal*censored*er swimming lagoon, several fresh water swimming pools, an activity centre, landscape gardens, tennis courts, a health spa and gym, a kiddies club, international marina as well as a bustling Souq and Corniche with boutiques, bars and restaurants, offering entertainment for all ages.

The opening of The Palace at Port Ghalib, the Sahara Sun Sands and the Sahara Sun Oasis, marks Sun International’s first venture outside of Southern Africa’s borders. Sun International, whose flagship resort is the glamorous Sun City, now offers an Egyptian getaway rich in experiences, custom and adventure.

“Port Ghalib promises to be Egypt’s newest exclusive hideaway offering an oceanfront setting, relaxed elegance, award-winning dining and flawless service, on one of the finest sweeps of sun-splashed beach in Egypt,” says Ian Anderson, sales and marketing director Sun International Resorts and Hotels (UK, Europe and US)

Each of the three hotels at Port Ghalib has its own individual style: The Palace at Port Ghalib is a magnificent architectural wonder styled around the original old Citadel with strong Egyptian and Arabian influences, and offers the ultimate indulgent escape. It is a deluxe 5-star hotel with 309 rooms including 13 Royal suites each boasting a private balcony or terrace.

The elegant Sahara Sun Sands is a 5-star hotel with 347 rooms inspired by the Nubian Desert villages and reminiscent of a romantic era. It is a secluded haven, styled in distinct desert tones of white, amber, ochre and tourmaline.  The Sahara Sun Oasis is also 5-star with 292 rooms, architecturally modelled on the old Caravan Serai, and designed with a soothing tranquillity that will satisfy families, for an idyllic beach holiday.

The resort boasts spectacular 12th century architectural design features, Arabian botanical gardens, one of the largest collections of handcrafted lanterns in the world, a secluded private beach with an offshore coral wall and the second largest man-made sal*censored*er lagoons in the world covering a surface area of 8 500m2.

Port Ghalib offers extensive marine, sport and leisure facilities including diving, dolphin safaris, 4x4 desert safaris, camel treks into the desert, windsurfing and quadbiking to name a few. Some of the world’s most spectacular dive sites are within easy reach of the resort. The Southern Red Sea is renowned for its reefs and unique marine eco-system, which are home to both hard and soft corals and a great variety of marine life including sharks, turtles and dolphins.
