Singapore broadens inflight connectivity

Singapore Airlines is
expanding availability of Connexion by Boeing on select flights from San Francisco and Los Angeles. With Connexion by Boeing, passengers in all three classes can use their
wireless-enabled laptops to send and receive e-mails and connect to
real-time Internet during flight. In addition, passengers can tune into
four channels of live global TV, including BBC World, CNBC, EuroNews and
Eurosport News, on their laptops, available at no additional charge to
passengers who use Connexion by Boeing.

The service is proving popular for a variety of reasons. In a 2005
independent global survey of 3,200 travelers conducted for Connexion by
Boeing, 90 percent of respondents said they use the inflight Internet
service to access their work e-mail (most using a corporate network), 76
percent accessed their personal e-mail, 69 percent said they browsed the
Internet, and 41 percent engaged their friends and family via instant
messaging or live chat applications. When asked to name the top benefits of
inflight connectivity, passengers said they used Connexion by Boeing to be
productive (44 percent), stay in touch (25 percent), and access e-mail (22
percent).
SIA plans to introduce Connexion by Boeing progressively on other long-
haul flights to and from North America throughout the year.
