TEMPO to Debut in Nevis

Nevis will have a huge role in the debut of MTV Networks’ newest cable
television channel this autumn. TEMPO, a new MTV network dedicated to all things Caribbean will launch with a series of events on six Caribbean islands beginning in Jamaica on October 15th, culminating in a star-studded concert on the island of Nevis, Sunday, October 30th. MTV Networks is a division of Viacom Inc.
TEMPO will launch in markets across the Caribbean this November.
The channel will provide a mix of original and acquired programming that is vibrant, relevant to its audience and true to the lively spirit of the
Caribbean and its unique culture.

A North American debut in the USA will take place in the third quarter of 2006 when TEMPO joins Viacom’s roster of popular and highly-targeted cable networks including MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET and Spike TV. The network will also be broadcast in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Championing the campaign for the development of the network
which will be dedicated to the distinctive islands, music, food, sports, and culture of the region is Frederick Morton, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Business and Legal Affairs at MTV Networks, a Nevisian currently residing in Newark, New Jersey. Mr. Morton has spearheaded the initiative to launch TEMPO with a major concert in his family’s homeland of Nevis.

One of the first high profile names to be identified with the new network is musical master, Wyclef Jean. He will headline the star-studded concert October 30th in Nevis on the grounds of the Mount Nevis Hotel, adjacent to the historic Cottle Church.

The outdoor concert in Nevis will be the one of the largest musical productions the Caribbean has ever hosted and a logistical challenge for the Island Administration of Nevis along with representatives from a host of community organizations and the Nevis Tourism Authority.
