America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA)
announced today the election of Hal Heule as senior vice president, technical
operations.  In this newly created position, Heule will oversee the
maintenance and engineering operations at America West and provide strategic
direction for the planning and managing of the airline`s line maintenance,
base maintenance, engineering, reliability, materials and planning,
maintenance records and support, quality control and quality assurance.
 
“Hal`s technical skills and strategic leadership will provide effective
direction of the maintenance and engineering division,” said Jeff McClelland,
senior vice president, operations. “We welcome Hal to the America West team
and his key role in the company`s immediate and long-term operations
improvement plans.”
 
Prior to joining America West, Heule was executive vice president at
Strand Associates, Inc. (SAI), an aviation-consulting firm based in Genesee,
Colo., where he served for six years as the project lead for client
engagements for a number of major aviation companies. In this capacity, Heule
worked with client senior management in the areas of maintenance and flight
operations, focusing on organizational improvements, business process
refinement, regulatory compliance improvements and improvements to information
systems.

Heule is a 34-year airline industry veteran.  Before SAI, he was with
Continental Airlines for 12 years holding various maintenance and engineering
positions including vice president of technical services.  His airline career
also included operational management positions at Texas International Airlines
and Pan American World Airways.

Heule holds a master`s degree in business administration from the
University of Houston and a bachelor`s degree in electrical engineering from
Georgia Institute of Technology.
