Boat sails into Birmingham STAND F26 at Best of Britain & Ireland Show

The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway was the star of last year’s Best of Britain & Ireland Show at London’s Olympia when it displayed the luxury Pullman observation car Glaslyn.

This year, the railway is sending a somewhat smaller vehicle to BOBI, Spooner’s Boat. This diminutive and singular inspection vehicle is designed to run downhill by gravity, then switch to wind power by raising its sail. It is believed to be the world’s only wind-powered rail vehicle and to sail into Porthmadog Harbour Station in a truly green manner is one of life’s great experiences. The Boat is a traditional clinker-built vessel and only the presence of wheels indicates its true purpose. Don’t miss the chance to inspect one of the world’s strangest railway artefacts alongside the Heritage Railway Association stand, F26.
