Allure of the Seas headed for debut

Royal Caribbean has taken delivery of the largest cruise ship in the world – Allure of the Seas – as it prepares for its debut voyage.

Sister ship to Oasis of the Seas, the vessel is presently on route to its homeport of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

With captain Hernan Zini at the helm, Allure of the Seas departed from Turku in Finland over the weekend.

The 65-metre tall ship lowered its funnels for the first time earlier today in order to squeeze beneath the Storebaelt Bridge in Denmark, which supports a road at 65 metres above sea level.

Allure was designed with the ability to lower its funnels by one metre to allow the ship to pass under the bridge on its way to its new home.

It is heading there via the North Sea, Dover Straits and finally the English Channel.

The first commercial cruise by Allure of the Seas is on December 1st when the ship begins offering cruises in the Caribbean.

Prices for nine-night fly/cruise including flights from the UK for a seven-night Allure of the Seas cruise start at £1,470 per person.
