BTN reporting LIVE from ITB Berlin 2014: Qatar Tourism Authority ( QTA ) is leading the largest ever Qatari delegation of officials and representatives of government authorities and major hotels and top destination management companies in Qatar at this year’s International Tourism Bourse (ITB) Berlin, the biggest European travel trade show.
UNWTO is supporting Qatar to implement its new tourism strategy through collaboration in the areas of legislation, institutional strengthening, statistics, marketing and capacity building. During an official visit to the country, where he met H.E. Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar and attended the launch of Qatar’s Tourism Strategy, UNWTO Secretary-General, Taleb Rifai welcomed the high priority afforded to the tourism sector in Qatar.
Doha, capital of fast emerging tourism hotspot Qatar, has welcomed leading lights from the industry to the Tourism in Tomorrow’s World Conference. The Qatar Tourism Authority has hosted the second Sport & Tourism Forum on the sidelines of the fourth ASPIRE4SPORT event in Doha. Qatar Tourism Authority has joined forces with the Qatar Museums Authority to announce Relics, the first solo exhibition in the Middle East dedicated to the iconic British artist Damien Hirst. On view from October 10th until January 2014, at the Alriwaq Doha exhibition space, the show will present the largest collection of Hirst’s work ever assembled.
Visitors to Qatar can now experience the largest archaeological site to be inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage List, the town of Al Zubarah. A historic coastal town that is now abandoned, Al Zubarah is situated approximately 100 kilometres north-west of Doha.
Qatar Tourism Authority Chairman, Mr. Issa Al Muhanadi has announced the launch of QTA’s new and enhanced website. The announcement was during an event held at QTA’s offices and in presence of all the employees. The site has been designed to be a simple and informative, and aims to be a functional and interactive resource for Qatar’s residents, as well as for all the tourists.
Doha has strengthened its position among the most popular convention destinations in the world, with the Qatar capital moving from 49 positions to joint 111th. The city is now level with the established destinations of Florence, Riga and San Juan, in a list of over 360 participating cities in a recently released from the International Congress & Convention Association.
