Three police officers killed in Mexico City airport shootout
Three Mexican police officers have been killed at Mexico City International Airport during a shootout with two other officers. It is believed the three dead officers were attempting to arrest the two officers, who are accused of being involved with a cocaine trafficking business.

Earthquake hits Oaxaca in Mexico
A strong earthquake – measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale - hit the Mexican state of Oaxaca at 02:22 this morning according to the United States Geological Survey. A further quake was also recorded on the San Andreas Fault in California, while the island of Fiji was also hit.

Celia is upgraded to Category 2 hurricane in Eastern Pacific, still not a threat to land
MIAMI—Hurricane Celia grew stronger Monday evening in the East Pacific Ocean and was upgraded to a Category 2.
First hurricane of season forms off Mexico
The first hurricane of the Pacific season has formed off the coast of Mexico according to the United States National Hurricane Centre. Hurricane Celia was recorded 350 miles off of Acapulco, but is not expected to make landfall.

BA launches Cancun service
British Airways is boosting its Mexico services with the launch of two direct flights a week from London Gatwick to Cancun from November 2010. The route will be served by a Boeing 777 with three cabin classes.
