Boeing 747-8 celebrates delivery milestone with Lufthansa
Boeing celebrated the 50th delivery of a 747-8 earlier, with Deutsche Lufthansa, the launch customer of the passenger version, taking delivery of the milestone aircraft almost one year after the first revenue flight of the 747-8 Intercontinental. It is the airline’s seventh 747-8 and its 82nd 747.
EVA Air relies on Lufthansa Systems for scheduling
Lufthansa Systems today announced that the Taiwanese airline EVA Air will use IT solutions from Lufthansa Systems for its scheduling and codeshare management. The airline has signed a 10-year contract for the use of NetLine/Sched for scheduling and SchedConnect for codeshare management and schedule distribution. Using the latest IT solutions will enable EVA Air to optimise its scheduling processes and the management of its codeshare flights while lowering costs and increasing revenues.
Changes at the top for Lufthansa as Hohmeister steps up
Harry Hohmeister, chief executive of Swiss International Air Lines, has assumed the role of chief officer group airlines and logistics with Lufthansa. At the same time Bettina Volkens has been confirmed to the position of chief officer corporate human resources and legal affairs with the German carrier.
Losses widen at Lufthansa, but outlook remains positive
Lufthansa Group has seen its net losses widen to €459 million for the first quarter of financial 2013, up from €394 million from the same period last year. Much of the difference comes from redundancy payments related to its SCORE restructuring programme.
Lufthansa flights crippled by ground staff strike
German flag-carrier Lufthansa has been forced to cancel the vast majority of its flights today after a strike by ground staff. Just 32 flights were scheduled to depart, out of the 1,700 originally planned.

New flights from UK as Lufthansa launches summer schedule
Lufthansa is boosting UK services with the introduction of the summer timetable with a double-digit increase in capacity on the Aberdeen to Frankfurt route and the start of two new services to Glasgow and Cardiff. The increase in capacity between Aberdeen and Frankfurt is the result of introducing the larger B737-500 aircraft with 114 seats to replace the 70 seat CR7 which has been operating the route.
Hertz On Demand signs Lufthansa contract
The Hertz Corporation has announced its global car sharing business Hertz On Demand is now serving as the operator of Lufthansa CarPool for the airline’s employees, making Hertz the leading player in the corporate car sharing sector. Hertz will supply and maintain more than 1,000 vehicles equipped with Hertz On Demand car sharing technology as well as operate the CarPool booking system.
Lufthansa strike sees flights cancelled across Germany
German flag-carrier Lufthansa has been forced to cancel more than 500 flights today as staff take industrial action over pay and conditions. Staff are staging walk-outs at Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne airports and other locations between 05:00 and 12:00 today.
Lufthansa announces 2013 summer schedule with new holiday destinations
Lufthansa is continuing to expand its services to popular leisure travel destinations. The new summer timetable includes five new attractive holiday destinations: Mahón, Jerez de la Frontera, Cardiff, Glasgow and Varna. In the long-haul segment, Lufthansa is launching a new service from Munich to Vancouver on the west coast of Canada in addition to the existing connection from Frankfurt.
Lufthansa Group profitable in difficult environment
According to last year’s preliminary consolidated financial statements, Lufthansa Group posted revenues totalling 30.1 billion euros (+4.9 per cent) and generated an operating profit of 524 million euros (-36.1 per cent) in 2012. The Group had forecast an operating profit for 2012 in the mid-three digit million euro range.
