Spohr selected as new Lufthansa chief
Carsten Spohr has been selected as the next chief executive of Lufthansa group. The 47-year-old, who currently head Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, will assume his new role on May 1st 2014. Spohr will take over from Christoph Franz, who is moving to Swiss pharmaceuticals group Roche.

Lufthansa signs up for Amadeus Airline Ancillary Services
Lufthansa and Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global travel industry, have announce a new agreement that will see the airline sell advance seat reservation as an ancillary product in the travel agency channel using Amadeus Airline Ancillary Services. The agreement, which also applies to Lufthansa’s subsidiary Austrian Airlines, Austria’s flag carrier, means that travel agents using Amadeus in 63 markets worldwide will be able to book advance seat reservations in Economy Class for travellers flying on domestic and European routes.
Lufthansa overhauls loyalty programme for 2014
The world’s biggest business travel reward programme is getting a ‘new year’ makeover with a new name, new look and enhanced benefits. As the Star Alliance Company Plus Programme in the UK celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2014 it will become PartnerPlusBenefit, adopting the programme’s global brand name, and for the first time will offer members the opportunity to earn points on all revenue booking classes, including the lowest ones.
Lufthansa boosts London-Frankfurt connections
Lufthansa has announced a seven per cent increase in capacity on services between London Heathrow and Frankfurt from the start of the summer 2014 timetable. From Sunday March 30th all Lufthansa flights between Heathrow and Frankfurt will be operated by the larger Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft resulting in almost 1,000 additional seats every week.
Profits up at Lufthansa group
Lufthansa Group increased its adjusted operating result by 47 per cent in the first nine months of 2013. Excluding restructuring costs in connection with the Score program, totalling €168 million, and project costs for product improvements, some €30 million, the Group generated an operating profit of about €860 million in the period from January to September.
Lufthansa Cargo focuses on Latin America
As of the start of its winter schedule for 2013 Lufthansa Cargo will be expanding its services in the growth market Latin America. Europe’s leading cargo airline will add the Peruvian capital Lima to its global route network on 27 October 2013. Its new service to Lima will be flown twice a week with MD-11 freighters.
Lufthansa selects 777-9X for fleet renewal programme
Boeing has welcomed Lufthansa’s selection of the 777-9X for its future long-haul fleet. The launch of the 777X family is targeted for later this year and entry into service around the end of the decade.
Lufthansa chief to step down
Lufthansa has confirmed chief executive Christoph Franz will step down when his contract expires at the end of May next year. The move comes as a shock to the carrier, with Franz having been in the role for just three years.
