Lynch bows out at Jamaica Tourist Board

The Jamaica Tourist Board has announced that John Lynch will step down from office as Jamaica’s director of tourism at the end of May. Lynch served in that capacity for five and a half years, culminating with a record-breaking year in 2013 when for the first time the destination welcomed two million visitors in a calendar year.

Jamaica recently welcomed the leadership of the regional tourism sector to the Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2014, which took place in the purpose built Montego Bay Convention Centre. Jamaica is showcasing some of its spectacular tourism offerings this week as Montego Bay plays host to the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association’s premier tourism marketing event, Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2014. The marketplace, which is expected to attract 1,200 delegates, is being hosted at Montego Bay Convention Centre, which was named Caribbean’s Leading Meetings & Convention Centre in 2013 by the World Travel Awards.

Caribbean holiday hotspot Jamaica has closed its international airports while cruise ships have also been diverted as hurricane Sandy batters the island. One man has been killed after the category one hurricane made land fall earlier, unleashing heavy rains and winds of 80mph.
