Today at ITB Berlin
ITB Berlin – the largest tourism event on earth – got underway at Messe Berlin today, with over 10,000 exhibitors beginning to greet the expected 100,000 guests. Among the many highlights were presentations from the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, the World Travel & Tourism Council and a rousing speech from UNWTO secretary general Taleb Rifai.
Taleb Rifai looks to future at ITB Berlin
UNWTO secretary-general Taleb Rifai has opened ITB Berlin with a well received speech urging tourism insiders to lead a “new decade of fairer, stronger and more sustainable growth”. Drawing applause on the first day of the event – staged for the 45th time this year – Rifai said: “The first decade of the 21st century was a decade of extraordinary tourism growth, but also of severe shocks: a decade that began with September 11th and ended with global economic crisis.
Emirates Palace makes a splash at ITB Berlin
As ITB Berlin opens, Emirates Palace is presenting its spring and summer holiday packages with the intent of attracting an influx of high-end vacationers to Abu Dhabi. The property – voted the World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Hotel by the World Travel Awards - will use the event to present its offering to more than 180,000 visitors.
ITB Berlin campaigns for children
ITB Berlin is campaigning for children’s rights and will sign a code of conduct pledging to protect children against sexual exploitation in tourism later this week. All week events will focus on activities which will inform exhibitors and visitors about the dangers children are exposed to and which will call upon them to protect children’s rights.
ITB Berlin fully booked again
A total of 11,163 exhibiting companies and organizations from 188 countries will be presenting their products and the latest travel trends at the 45th ITB Berlin this week. All available space has again been booked up at the world’s leading travel trade show, which is expecting some 100,000 trade visitors and 60,000 members of the general public to attend.
New faces at the ITB Berlin Convention 2011
As the largest tourism event of its kind, ITB Berlin will be setting the tone for the up coming year once again when proceedings begin later today. Until March 11th numerous internationally recognised experts, scientists and travel trade professionals will discuss the latest industry trends while also presenting exclusive, empirical survey findings.
