IATA 2013: Strong performance sustains profitability
The International Air Transport Association has upgraded its global outlook for the airline industry to a $12.7 billion profit in 2013 on $711 billion in revenues. This is $2.1 billion better than the $10.6 billion profit projected in March of this year and an improvement on the $7.6 billion profit generated in 2012.
IATA 2013: Jones appointed to head of cargo network service
The International Air Transport Association announced the appointment of Warren Jones as head of cargo network service, effective April 24th 2013. Jones, a US national, was previously the Aviation Development Manager at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and has more than 15 years’ experience in aviation and cargo issues.

IATA 2013: Aviation leaders gather in Cape Town
The International Air Transport Association has revealed that some 700 aviation leaders are gathering in Cape Town, South Africa for the 69th IATA annual general meeting and World Air Transport Summit. Cape Town will be the global capital of commercial aviation as the industry discusses its most important issues, including safety, environment, distribution and financial sustainability among others.
IATA 2013: Kenya Airways Pride Centre granted new IATA Certification
Kenya Airways Pride Centre, a training centre run by the national flag-carrier, has been granted new global certification by the International Air Transport Association. The new certification from the association designates the centre as an IATA Approved Training School, allowing it to deliver endorsed training programmes in the field of Dangerous Goods Regulations to shippers, freight forwarders, airlines and governments.
IATA and Travelport reach ticketing settlement
Travelport and IATA have, through arbitration proceedings, reached a confidential settlement agreement regarding the use by IATA of ticketing data transmitted by Travelport.
IATA report: Air freight growth stabilises
Officials at the International Air Transport Association have released figures for air freight markets in April which showed modest growth of 1.4 per cent compared to April 2012. This small increase helped to offset the 2.6 per cent decline recorded in March compared to the year-ago period.

The International Air Transport Association 69th annual general meeting has opened in Cape Town, South Africa with strong calls for African governments to take full advantage of aviation as a catalyst for growth and development. Opening the conference, IATA director general Tony Tyler said: “Nowhere is the potential for aviation greater than on the African continent - the home to a billion people spread across 20 per cent of the world’s land mass.”
