Expedia has added a set of robust, visual mobile travel planning services to its Expedia mobile app. Using location awareness and timezone updates, the app surfaces the most relevant part of the itinerary and related information at the moment the traveller is most likely to need that piece of information.

Expedia is launching a luggage tag campaign, which uses IATA airport codes to create travel related messages. Fans of the Expedia.co.uk Facebook page can create their own code combinations, using over 9,500 available IATA codes.

AirAsia Expedia appoints Tan as chief executive
AirAsia Expedia, a new joint venture between AirAsia and the Expedia group, has announced Kathleen Tan as chief executive. In this role, Tan will oversee the Expedia brand, AirAsiaGo, and Backick online travel agency businesses in south-east Asia, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
Expedia to take stake in trivago
Expedia has announced entry into a definitive agreement to acquire a 61.6 per cent equity position in trivago, a leading metasearch company headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany, for total consideration of €477 million. The deal includes €434 million in cash as well as €43 million in Expedia common stock.
Expedia reveals reasons behind last minute mobile hotel bookings
Having witnessed a spike in last-minute mobile hotel bookings during different national holidays, Expedia.com has released the results of a study of such behaviour. Conducted online by Harris Interactive among 2,893 online US adults, the study examined consumer willingness to use a mobile device to book a hotel room within 24 hours, and the various reasons for doing so.

Expedia announced that its Executive Committee, acting on behalf of Expedia’s Board of Directors, has declared a special cash dividend of $0.52 per share of outstanding common stock to be paid to stockholders of record as of the close of business on December 17, 2012, with a payment date of December 28, 2012.

Online travel agency Expedia has added a mobile-only promotion to its hotel-booking smartphone application in a bid to drive sales. Ranging from 10 to 30 percent off hotel desktop rates, the deals are available exclusively through the Expedia Hotels app and are available at more than 2,000 hotels in the United States, Canada and Europe.
