Expedia to acquire Orbitz Worldwide for US$1.6bn

Expedia has announced it has entered into a definitive agreement under which it will acquire Orbitz Worldwide, including all of Orbitz Worldwide’s brands, for $12.00 per share in cash. The deal represents an enterprise value of approximately $1.6 billion, and a premium of approximately 29 per cent over the volume weighted average share price for the five trading days up to and including February 11th, 2015.

The Expedia group, one of the world’s largest online travel companies, has announced the opening of offices in Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, the company’s first local offices in the Dominican Republic. “As one of the Expedia group’s top producing destinations within the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic is an in-demand market with 305 hotel partners,” said Demetrius Canton, director of lodging partner services for the Caribbean, the Expedia group.
