Dubai International passenger numbers hit record high

Dubai International started the New Year with record monthly traffic of 7.3 million passengers in January, surpassing the previous benchmark of 7.2 million passengers which was set in August 2015. Passenger traffic reached 7,327,637 in January 2016, up 6.3 per cent from 6,895,668 registered during the same month in 2015, according to the traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports today.

British Airways has unveiled its prestigious new lounge at the newly built Concourse D in Dubai International Airport. The airline’s new concept lounge features a special Concorde Bar for those flying in First. The lounge has been designed to maximise space using architectural elements such as illuminated glass screens giving customers separate spaces to work, relax or dine, creating a calm and relaxing environment.

Dubai International today increased its capacity from 75 million to 90 million per year with the opening of Concourse D. The project is the result of a US$1.2 billion investment to enhance service and boost capacity for the more than 70 international airlines that will now call it home. “We continue to invest in the development of top-flight infrastructure to augment service levels for our international airlines and their customers while providing the capacity needed to meet growing demand,” said Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Airports.

Air freight traffic at Dubai’s second airport, Dubai World Central rose 7.7 per cent during 2015 according to the year-end traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports. Air cargo volumes for the year totalled 888,714 tonnes, up 7.7 per cent from 824,933 tonnes recorded during 2014.

Dubai records strong increase in visitor numbers from UK

Annual figures released by Dubai’s Department of Tourism & Commerce Marketing show that 1.188 million UK visitors travelled to Dubai in 2015, an 11 per cent increase on the previous year. Dubai maintains its position as the fourth most visited city in the world, attracting over 14.2 million overnight visitors in 2015, a strong 7.5 per cent increase over 2014.

Dubai International retained its position as the world’s number one hub for international passengers by registering annual traffic of just over 78 million in 2015, according to a traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports. Boosted by the growth of some 100 airlines that connect Dubai International to more than 240 destinations around the world, most notably Emirates and flydubai, annual passenger traffic at DXB surged 10.7 per cent to reach a record 78,014,838 passengers in 2015 compared to 70,473,893 recorded during 2014.
