British climbers killed in Alps named
Two British climbers killed in the French Alps have been named by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office as John Taylor and Steve Barber. The pair, both from York, were killed in an avalanche alongside seven others on Mont Maudit near Chamonix on Thursday.

Rescuers seek Indonesia plane crash bodies
Rescuers scouring mountains in Indonesia around the crash site of a Russian Sukhoi Superjet which came down on Wednesday have yet to locate any bodies. As many as 50 people are believed to have been onboard the Sukhoi Superjet 100 when it vanished from radar screens 50 minutes after taking off from Jakarta.

As many as 31 Britons are among those stranded onboard the Costa Allegra, which was left adrift in the Indian Ocean after an a fire caused a power failure. The Costa Cruises-operated vessel has now been taken in tow and is headed toward nearby islands where the 1,000-plus people onboard can be transferred to the Seychelles.
Driver held following coach crash in northern France
Ten people have been kept in hospital in France overnight after a coach carrying children on a school trip crashed. Teacher Peter Rippington, 59, was killed in the incident near Chalons-en-Champagne early yesterday.
