Royal wedding: sealed with a kiss

Prince William and Kate Middleton brought their public celebrations of their wedding service to a crescendo by kissing twice on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. They were cheered by thousands of well-wishers – many who had camped for days – gathered outside the palace, whilst RAF planes flew past in honour of the new couple. More than a million people descended on central London for the historic occasion.

The zebra crossing outside Abbey Road studios – immortalised on the cover of a Beatles’ album – has been given Grade II listed status by the British government. The crossing – in north London’s St John’s Wood - is the first of its kind to ever be listed, with the decision to list taken following advice from English Heritage.
