Prince William and Kate Middleton brought their public celebrations of their wedding service to a crescendo by kissing twice on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. They were cheered by thousands of well-wishers – many who had camped for days – gathered outside the palace, whilst RAF planes flew past in honour of the new couple. More than a million people descended on central London for the historic occasion.

Nicolas Sarkozy has imposed a ban on low flying over a French Riviera villa where he will spend the Easter holidays with his wife, Carla Bruni. Pilots who break the decree, which states that planes can not fly below 915 metres above the villa, could face fines of up to €40,000 or six months in prison.

Tourism insiders in the UK were hoping for a second windfall in 2011 as it was confirmed the Queen’s eldest granddaughter Zara Phillips will marry long-term partner Mike Tindall. Tindall – an England rugby union international - proposed to 29-year-old Phillips on Monday evening at their home in Gloucestershire, with a date for the wedding expected to be named in the near future.

Hollywood actor Charlie Sheen will not face charges relating to the alleged assault of adult film star Capri Anderson at the Plaza Hotel. Anderson had filed a complaint with the New York Police Department, but officials have revealed charges are unlikely to be forthcoming.

Prince William and his fiancée Kate Middleton will have the choice of spending their honeymoon in Portugal’s most attractive tourist destination - the Algarve. An invitation issued by Turismo do Algarve has already been sent to the British Ambassador to Portugal, who will be forwarding the offer to the Royal couple.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have begun a five day visit to the Gulf as part of a concerted attempt to boost British presence in the region. Landing in Abu Dhabi late last night, The Queen was greeted by Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and several UAE ministers.
