Amadeus signs major deal with Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines and Amadeus IT Group have announced they have entered into a joint contract for Amadeus’ Altéa reservations solution that will support the carrier’s domestic service. Amadeus’ Altéa reservations solution currently supports the company’s international service, and Southwest has long indicated a desire to operate just one reservation system, operating multiple systems following the acquisition of AirTran and the launch of international service on Southwest.
Amadeus sees profits increase in first quarter
Amadeus IT Holding has reported adjusted profit growth of 8.6 per cent for the three months to March 31st, with the technology giant seeing €191.3 million of profits for the period. Comparable growth, excluding the impact from recent acquisitions, was 7.7 per cent.

Amadeus agrees to acquire i:FAO
Amadeus, the leading technology partner to the travel industry, has announced its intention to acquire i:FAO through a tender offer process, conditional upon acceptance by a minimum of 75 per cent of shareholders and regulatory approvals. Louis Arnitz, chief executive, i:FAO Group, and other major shareholders have committed to sell their shares into the tender offer to be launched by Amadeus.

New research from Oxford Economics, commissioned by industry tech-giant Amadeus, has suggested the travel industry is poised for a period of sustained growth over the next decade. This growth will be a largely driven by China, as it grows to become the largest outbound travel market by 2023.

Amadeus today reinforced its commitment to developing the airport of the future with the launch of Amadeus Airport Common Use Service, a next-gen airport platform capable of carrying out all passenger processing functions. The cloud-based Software as a Service solution platform will allow airlines and ground handlers to share the physical space and the IT resources of the airport, eliminating hosting and development burden.
