Dubai Air Show: Emirates offers vote of confidence in Airbus A380
Dubai-based Emirates airline has placed an additional order for 50 A380 aircraft, allaying fears of flagging demand for very large aircraft in the Middle East. The order was signed at a ceremony at the 2013 Dubai Airshow witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, chairman, Emirates Airline and Fabrice Brégier, Airbus president.
Korean Air flies A380 into Atlanta
Travelling to Atlanta with Korean Air will enter a new age this week, as the first A380 flights take off. Korean Air flight 036 will depart Atlanta Hartsfield at 13:10 today and will be the first commercial A380 flight out of the city.
Frankfurt welcomes fifth airline operating A380
An Airbus A380 with the blue-red-white tail fin of British Airways landed at Frankfurt airport earlier as the carrier prepares to launch the aircraft into its long-haul route network. It is the first of twelve A380 aircraft to be delivered to the British flag-carrier.
British Airways reveals A380 South Africa plans
Rugby giants Chris Robshaw, Bryan Habana and Jean De Villiers have undertaken one of the biggest challenges of their careers – taking on the might of British Airways’ largest aircraft, the Airbus A380. Weighing in at 110kg, 95kg and 101kg respectively, Robshaw, the England rugby captain and Habana and De Villiers, the South African Springboks, are pictured attempting to pull the airline’s newest fleet member (topping the scales at 366,000kgs) down the runway at Manston Airport in Kent.
British Airways welcomes first A380 to UK
British Airways has taken delivery of its first Airbus A380 today at Heathrow – the first British airline to receive the world’s largest commercial jet. The UK flag-carrier is also the first airline in Europe to operate both the A380 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the first two of which landed at Heathrow last week.
Qatar Airways awaits delivery of first Airbus A380
Ahead of the planned 2014 delivery of the first Qatar Airways Airbus A380-800 on order, the airline today released the first image of the aircraft in partial livery from the manufacturer’s Toulouse assembly line in France. The traditional Oryx logo, which appears on Qatar Airways’ current mixed fleet of 124 aircraft, is clearly seen gracing the 24 metre high tail of the double-decker A380 superjumbo, and is sure to turn heads at airports worldwide once it is scheduled to enter service early next year.
British Airways to take delivery of A380 and Boeing Dreamliner
British Airways is poised to become the first airline in Europe to introduce both the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 787 into its fleet. The airline will take delivery into the UK of its first two 787s on consecutive days, June 26th and 27th, followed by its first A380 on July 4th.
Thai Airways to bring A380 to Bangkok-London route
On December 1st, 2013 Thai Airways’ daily service between London Heathrow and Bangkok will be jet-propelled into the 21st century when the world’s largest aircraft, the A380, comes into operation on the route. Finishing touches put to British Airways’ first A380
MSN95, British Airways’ first A380 double-decker superjumbo has emerged from the largest paint hangar in the world after being emblazoned with the airline’s famous red, white and blue livery. Twenty-four painters at Airbus’ Hamburg hangar spent two weeks on eight movable platforms up to 30 metres from the ground applying five coats of red, white and blue gloss paint to the huge aircraft.
Airbus delivers 100th A380 to Malaysia Airlines
Malaysia Airlines and Airbus together marked a major achievement earlier, with the hand-over of the 100th A380 to MAS at Airbus’ Henri Ziegler Delivery Centre in Toulouse, France. The aircraft is the sixth A380 for MAS.
British Airways confirms first A380 routes
British Airways’ first Airbus A380 will fly on the ‘Red Carpet Route’ to Los Angeles, with tickets going on sale today. The home of Hollywood will be the inaugural destination for the first A380 to be operated by a UK airline.
Korean Air outlines fleet expansion plans for 2013
Korean Air will introduce nine additional next-generation aircraft to its fleet in 2013; two A380s, one A330-200, two B777-300ERs, two B737-900ERs, one B747-8F and one B777F. The arrival of the addition two A380s in July and October 2013, will bring the number of Korean Air’s A380s to seven.
