It’ll be California Dreaming’ all the way with British Airways when the airline’s new A380 starts flying to San Francisco next summer.

The new service leads a raft of frequency improvements, including more flights to Miami and Cape Town.

The City by the Bay will be the second city in California after Los Angeles.

And with flights about to start to Washington DC on October 2nd, San Francisco will become the third US destination to welcome the superjumbo.

It will also start services to Singapore on October 28th.

British Airways’ flagship luxurious double-decker, offering stylish seating for 469 customers, will operate five services a week during the summer months.

The airline is shortly to take delivery of its seventh A380, a part of a £5 billion investment in new aircraft, smarter cabins, elegant lounges, and new technologies to make life more comfortable in the air and on the ground.

Lynne Embleton, British Airways’ director of strategy, said: “San Francisco is a firm favourite with our customers so we couldn’t be happier that they’ll be able to fly there on one of the newest and most advanced aircraft in our fleet.

“They’ll be able to enjoy a taste of luxury and relax all the way to the west coast in comfort and style, and be able to choose from more than 130 movies and 650 TV shows from our latest in-flight entertainment system, as well as enjoy the very best of height-cuisine.”

Customers can contemplate California while travelling in one of the A380s 14 stunning First suites on the main deck, and 97 Club World seats, split between the main and upper deck (which features a new 2:3:2 configuration).

The popular World Traveller Plus cabin has been increased to 55 seats with 303 seats in World Traveller

The double decked aircraft also offers one of the quietest cabins in the sky, with bigger overhead bins, extra storage space, cleaner air, mood lighting and more power sockets for personal electronic equipment.

The A380 will fly from Heathrow’s Terminal 5 as the BA287 on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and return as the BA286. British Airways operates a total of fourteen flights a week to San Francisco.

British Airways is also increasing flights a week on to Miami, from fourteen to seventeen a week, from March 30th, 2015 to May 2nd, 2015.

The increase will continue on from the winter 2014 season for five weeks, up to and including the busy Easter holiday period.

It will then revert to a double daily service.

Increased capacity to Cape Town will be good news for holiday-makers for the start of the summer 2015 season.

Flights will increase to fourteen a week from March 29th to April 27th, then revert to nine a week.
