Travelzoo Asia Pacific appoints Vivian Hong as president, China

Travelzoo Asia Pacific, a licensee of Travelzoo Inc. (NASDAQ: TZOO), a global Internet media company, today announced the appointment of Vivian Hong as President, China.  Ms. Hong will oversee all aspects of the company’s business and operations and lead Travelzoo’s growing business in the Chinese mainland.  She will report to Mr. Jason Yap, CEO, Travelzoo Asia Pacific.

“Vivian is an executive with a rare mix of experience and skills.  Her early involvement with a local Chinese start-up gave her pace and dynamism akin to the exponential growth of the eCommerce industry in China.  Her subsequent move to well-established multinational companies, at higher levels, added processes and professionalism befitting the governance of global public companies.  With more than 10 years in eCommerce, Vivian is an ideal candidate with the personality and tenacity to lead Travelzoo’s interest in China,” said Mr. Jason Yap, CEO, Travelzoo Asia Pacific.  “We are now ready for accelerated growth in China.”

“Travelzoo has the unique selling proposition of a business model in a market where consumers are constantly bombarded with advertising information.  Filtered, qualified and verified information breaks through the clutter to provide real values.  As Chinese consumers get savvier with their lifestyles and consumptions, it is opportune that Travelzoo provides the ideal bridge between businesses and discerning consumers.  Travelzoo has also taken care and caution in preparing itself for China.  Its commitment to quality, above all, is a sure win formula.  I am proud to be part of this organization that is so focused and disciplined in creating values, and I can see myself scale the impact towards Travelzoo’s dominance in the market,” said Ms. Hong.

Prior to joining Travelzoo, Ms. Hong was director at Dell between November 2010 and 17 June 2011, where she headed its online division in Greater China.  Over the period of time, her intense involvement in re-engineering the company’s turn-around won her an internal Dell award and recognitions with the global executive team.  Between May 2005 and October 2010, Ms. Hong held several senior positions at PayPal and eBay for Greater China.  Her latest role, subsequent to the corporate mergers between the two companies, was marketing head, PayPal, Greater China.  Her role was pivotal to the integration of the two companies.  During her tenure, Ms. Hong led the launch of the three PayPal sites in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and helped built the eBay sites in China and Hong Kong.  She was also awarded the Global PayPalian Award for her performance.  Ms. Hong started her eCommerce career with Alibaba during its start-up phase.  Between 2000 and 2005, she grew from being a marketing director to general manager, Shanghai.  That was also the formative period, where Ms. Hong played critical roles in building Alibaba, for what propelled it to a mega media conglomerate that it is today.

Ms. Hong holds a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
