Thousands of families to cash in on half term deals with National Rail

Families planning half-term fun can make double savings this autumn by taking the train, in a deal that gives cut-price entry to some of Britain’s top days out. Dozens of the country’s best-loved attractions, including big names such as London Zoo and Tower of London, are offering 2FOR1 entry when you travel by train. Simply download a voucher from www.daysoutguide.co.uk for your chosen day out and present it along with your valid National Rail train tickets on arrival at the venue.

Nearly a quarter of a million vouchers have been used so far this year, saving families around £4.8million in entry fees.

Further savings can be made on many journeys by using the Family & Friends Railcard and the Association of Train Operating Companies is expecting a surge in families taking advantage of this discount in half-term week. During last year’s October half term break, around 500,000 journeys were made using the Family & Friends Railcard with 94,000 of these in the first weekend.

The year’s most popular attractions with National Rail passengers cashing in on the 2FOR1 discount include:

The Tower of London
Madame Tussauds
ZSL London Zoo
SEA LIFE London Aquarium
HMS Belfast

Edward Welsh, Director of Corporate Affairs at the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC), said: “We’re expecting thousands of people to ditch the car and catch the train this half-term as families head out to enjoy some quality time during the autumn break.

“National Rail is offering some great 2FOR1 entry deals to dozens of major attractions and many people can also get a third off the cost of their journey with a Railcard. It’s a great chance to get out and about with the family.”
