Stansted baggage staff set to take strike action

Travellers using Stansted Airport in the UK could face disruption over the bank holiday weekend as baggage handlers prepare to walk out on strike.

GMB union members employed by Mitie have confirmed they will take action from 03:30 to 06:00 BST and from 15:30 to 18:00 over four days from Friday August 23rd.

The union said its 40 members, who can baggage at the airport, voted by 92 per cent in favour of industrial action.

Workers are taking action in a dispute over pay.

Officials at the airport said they would talk to Mitie about the likely impact of the strike, with the airport seeking removal of premium rates for working nights or overtime worth 3.5 per cent to pay for a pay rise of two per cent.
