Sixt creates car hire option via Apple Passbook

Sixt is dedicated to exploring the latest technological advances, so the company has now incorporated the innovative Passbook function into its iPhone app. Customers of Germany’s number one car rental company can create their own “passes” for storing and managing all relevant information about their reservations on their iPhones. This ground-breaking feature puts Sixt in the vanguard of developments – it is one of Germany’s first companies to make use of the Passbook service, and it is he first international car hire company to do so.

Hiring a car using Passbook is easy: Customers simply reserve the car of their choice, and the iPhone app then issues a collection pass. They can use Passbook to look up the date, time and collection location. The mobile app can tell if a customer is in the vicinity of a Sixt service station on the day of their reservation, and a notification displays the pass’s access feature on the iPhone’s lockscreen. Users are also given access to a specific QR code, which can be scanned in at the rental service’s counter, cutting the time it takes to complete the entire transaction to just a few seconds.

If customers change their reservation data, the app updates the pass automatically. Version 4.3.1 is available in Apple’s App Store, giving customers absolute freedom to book cars whenever they want and wherever they are in more than 100 Sixt markets around the world. Sixt customers can also enjoy the benefits delivered by a host of other apps for different smartphones and operating systems, such as iPad, Blackberry, Bada, WebOS, and Windows Phone 7 and 8. Development is constantly underway on the next generation of all of these apps, making sure that customers will always have the very best in convenience and service at their fingertips.
