Paris 2024 and Milano Cortina 2026 Organising Committees sign collaboration agreement

The Organising Committees for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 and the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 have today announced a collaboration agreement, which is aimed at encouraging joint initiatives and activities in an effort to stage more sustainable, innovative and spectacular Games in 2024 and 2026.

The agreement between the two Organising Committees was signed by Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet and Milano Cortina 2026 President Giovanni Malagò at a ceremony at Club France in Tokyo.

It identifies four areas of action to facilitate collaboration across all aspects of the Olympic and Paralympic Games – from operations to sustainability, innovation, integration and communication. They include:

Knowledge-sharing and joint actions which, for example, could include joint public engagement activations.
Collaboration on human resources, for example with secondment and volunteering opportunities.
Resource-sharing, for example technology, sports equipment and infrastructure that may be compatible for both events, as part of a circular economy approach.
Joint communication and advocacy for the social, economic and environmental impact of the respective events.

The agreement is in line with the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic Agenda 2020+5, which encourages greater collaboration between Games stakeholders.

Paris and Milano Cortina will host Olympic and Paralympic Games in neighbouring countries in 2024 and 2026, sharing an ambition to place sport at the service of society.

Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet said: “It is a great pleasure to agree on this collaboration with our friends and neighbours of Milano Cortina 2026. Concluding this agreement in Tokyo is symbolic, as it was with Tokyo 2020 that Paris 2024 signed its first such agreement in 2018. Since then, a new dynamic of closer collaboration between organising committees has emerged as we all look to contribute towards a Games model that is more in tune with the issues and expectations of modern society. Today, Milano Cortina 2026 joins Tokyo 2020, but also Lausanne 2020, Birmingham 2022 and Dakar 2026, among those organising committees with whom we are working closely together. The geographical and cultural proximity of our two countries, the proximity of the Summer and Winter Games, and the successive holding of our two events will together be the key to ensuring that our collaboration serves our common belief: that sport changes lives.”

Milano Cortina President Giovanni Malagò said: “This signature by Paris 2024 and Milano Cortina 2026 embodies the friendship and cooperation between two countries historically linked by deep cultural and social roots, and united by a boundless passion for sport. This common agreement will enable us to cooperate on different key areas and develop them together in order to deliver two unforgettable editions of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Both of our teams are eager to start working together, and I am sure that we will reach great and innovative results.”
