Newly converted Embassy Suites Baltimore to open doors in 2013

Embassy Suites Hotels today announced the May 2013 opening of the Embassy Suites Baltimore Downtown, which will be the largest full-service all-suites hotel in downtown Baltimore and the upper upscale hotel brand’s third property in the state of Maryland.

This newly converted property, which is being called the Tremont Suites Hotel & Grand Historic Venue in the interim, is being developed by a joint venture between Garrison Investment Group and The Chartres Lodging Group, and managed by Kokua Hospitality, LLC. The 37-story, 300-room hotel is located within the celebrated cultural hub of downtown Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, at 222 St. Paul Place in Baltimore, Md.

“We’re excited to welcome this storied property into our portfolio and to bring the Embassy Suites brand into the revitalization of downtown Baltimore,” said John Rogers, Global Head of Embassy Suites Hotels. “This conversion hotel is a demonstration of our flexible approach to development. We look at our key brand pillars - two-room suites, welcoming atriums, complimentary cooked-to-order breakfasts and Complimentary Evening Receptions* - and work with developers to fit them into a variety of spaces, whether it’s a conversion or a completely new build.”

The hotel encompasses the acclaimed Grand Historic Venue, which underwent a $27 million renovation in 2006 and features 45,000 square feet of meeting space with 19 individually restored banquet rooms. It has been a popular space for local weddings, business meetings, parties and other events, and will remain as such under the new Embassy Suites name. Venue spaces of note include the Marble Room, a distinguished ballroom space featuring stained-glass windows circa 1866, and the Corinthian Room, the grand ballroom adorned with chandeliers and gilded columns.

“We’re pleased to partner with Embassy Suites Hotels to continue to offer excellent guest service in the backdrop of this historic venue,” said Maki Nakamura Bara, President of Chartres Lodging, which owns the property, and Co-Chairman of Kokua Hospitality. “The hotel will provide a comfortable and convenient offering for business and leisure travelers alike in the blossoming downtown Baltimore area.”
