Hotel searches up 22% as people book last minute Valentine’s Day getaways on phones

Searches on Hotels.com’s mobile app have increased by 22% this weekend compared to the same time last week as people look for late Valentine’s Day deals from their phones.  Hotels.com’s mobile app saw its busiest day on Sunday 12th February where searches for Valentine’s Day stays peaked between 4pm and 10pm as travellers looked for last minute romantic getaways. Venice is the most popular romantic destination this year, as searches increased 138% for a hotel in the city, compared to a 33% increase in searches for Paris and a 28% increase for Rome.

Launched last year, the Hotels.com mobile app has been downloaded over 4 million times, enabling people to search and book over 140,000 hotels around the world straight from their phone.

Alison Couper from Hotels.com commented: “We all know that Valentine’s Day is a busy time of year for hotel bookings, but this year we have seen a surge in searches just a few days before the big day, showing that people are using the apps to book spontaneous getaways on the go. For people who lead hectic lifestyles it can be difficult to find the perfect present for Valentine’s Day, but with the Hotels.com mobile app you can still surprise your loved one and book the perfect hotel straight from your phone, quickly and securely.”
