Following the positive news on November 8th 2013 when the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office lifted its advice against all but essential travel to the whole of Egypt, with the exception of the Red Sea, the FCO has now lifted the advisory against travel to Cairo.

The travel advice changes follow restrictions that were lifted earlier this month to the popular tourist centres of Luxor and Aswan.

Omayma El Husseini, Egyptian Tourism Authority director, UK & Ireland, commented: “We could not be more pleased by the FCO’s additional revision – Egypt’s capital is open for business!

“UK travellers can now return and enjoy the world renowned historical attractions in Cairo as well as the city itself.

“We look forward to welcoming the British and Irish back.”

Home to Egypt’s Giza Pyramids, a key tourist destination for UK travellers, the FCO no longer advises against all but essential travel to the entire Governorates of Cairo and Giza.

An FCO spokesperson commented: “FCO Travel Advice is kept under constant review.

“Relaxation of our TA for Cairo is a reflection of our assessment of the current threat facing British Nationals.

“We no longer advise against all but essential travel to Cairo.

“This includes the entire governorates of Cairo and Giza.”
