EarthCheck awards Sandals two Platinum level certifications
Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa and Sandals Grande Riviera Beach & Villa Golf Resort have been recognised for their environmental efforts by EarthCheck, a leading certification and benchmarking organisation, which has awarded both resorts with a Platinum level certification.
As a result of having consistently demonstrated their commitment to host communities and high standards of environmental care, over a period of ten years or more, Sandals Negril and Sandals Grande Riviera have joined an elite number of organisations around the world in achieving the highest level of EarthCheck Certification, making Sandals Resorts the only hotel company in the world to receive two platinum certifications.
Sandals Negril first earned Platinum certification in 2008 and earned its Platinum re-certification this year.
This is the inaugural Platinum certification for Sandals Grande Riviera, which recently completed a nearly $60 million expansion and renovation project.
“This achievement highlights the long term commitment that Sandals Resorts has shown to the communities and environment of the Caribbean,” explained EarthCheck chief executive Stewart Moore.
“They’re well ahead of most governments and industry players globally as a result of their efforts, and serve as a leader in the field of sustainable practices.”
Sandals Negril and Sandals Grande Riviera chose meaningful approaches to sustainable tourism, involving the use of EarthCheck’s science-based software and tools to measure the effectiveness of their environmental and corporate social responsibility practices over the past decade.
In July of 2011, Sandals Resorts International underlined its sustainability credentials by launching a new environmental management program entitled, Sandals Earthguard powered by EarthCheck.
“Sandals Earthguard allows us to take practical, meaningful action to provide quality holiday experiences for our guests, while we work to minimise the environmental and social impacts of our operations,” stated Adam Stewart, chief executive of Sandal Resorts International.
“This is an incredible achievement for our company and we look forward to continuing to expand our environmental efforts for years to come,” said Stewart.
