American and New Horizons Develop Skills

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines today announced that it is collaborating with New Horizons Computer Learning Centers to offer current and former American Airlines employees classroom and online training to help them succeed in today’s competitive job market.

“We care deeply about the well-being of our people and want to do everything we can to assist them during a time when economic hardships have taken a toll on the entire airline industry,” saidSue Oliver, senior vice president—Human Resources for American. “By working with New Horizons, we can help our employees get the tools they need to enhance their existing skills or train for a new career.”

With more than 270 state-of-the-art classroom learning locations in 54 countries around the world, New Horizons offers hundreds of training courses, including business skills, technical training and certifications. Desktop applications, such as Microsoft Office and graphic design, are also part of the curriculum.

“With classes available days, evenings and weekends, an applications help desk that offers assistance seven days a week, and hands-on computer labs, the people of American Airlines will be well served through New Horizons Integrated Learning solutions,” said Martin Bean, New Horizons chief operating officer. “Whether an individual wants to upgrade his or her existing skills or gain new skills to start a new career, there has never been a better time to invest in career development.”

While American is unable to help pay for this training, individuals who wish to enroll in New Horizons classes may qualify for state and local educational grants or special financing available through the National Emergency Grant Program or American Airlines Federal Credit Union.
