Qantas today announced a three-year sponsorship with the National Rugby League (NRL).

Qantas Group General Manager Marketing Curtis Davies said the agreement included assistance with regional, domestic and international air travel for the teams and referees in the NRL competition.

“Qantas is official airline for the Telstra Premiership, State of Origin and Test Matches. Under a separate agreement, wholly owned Qantas subsidiary QantasLink is the naming rights sponsor of the Newcastle Knights.
“More than 100,000 NRL fans attend matches each weekend and Qantas is proud to be able to add this football code to the airline`s list of sporting sponsorships,” he said.

The Qantas association with sport in Australia stretches back more than 45 years to the 1956 Olympic Games, when the airline carried the Olympic Flame to Melbourne.
