AirAsia buys 40 A320s for $2.7 bn

Malaysia’s low cost carrier AirAsia has ordered 40 more A320 Family aircraft, and taken another 30 on option, Airbus said on Wednesday. Airbus did not mention the value of the order, but based on the list price of an average US$65 million for each single-aisle A320 aircraft, it is estimated the contract is worth about US$2.7 billion.

The latest deal brings AirAsia’s total orders for the Airbus Single Aisle Family to 100, the European aircraft maker said in a statement on the third day of the Farnborough International Airshow in southern England.

AirAsia currently operates seven A320s.
