First-ever charter crosses Taiwan Strait

Taiwan’s China Airlines (CAL) launched the first-ever direct cargo charter flight across the Taiwan Strait Wednesday, carrying 70 tons of high-tech industry machinery and parts to Shanghai. Minister of Transportation and Communications Kuo Yao-chi, Civil Aeronautics Administration Director Chang Kuo-cheng and CAL Chairman Wei Hsing-hsiung jointly presided over a celebration ceremony at Chiang Kai-shek International Airport to mark the maiden direct cross-strait cargo charter flight.

Kuo told the China hews agency the direct cargo flight services will help Taiwan companies save flight costs and time.

CAL plans to operate five round-trip Taipei-Shanghai cargo charter flights between July 19 and August 11, using a Boeing 747-400 all-cargo plane.
