Cancun expecting fewer tourists

The Caribbean resort town will receive almost 20 percent fewer tourists this summer than last year and its revenues from tourism will drop 14 percent from 2005 levels, an official study predicts. According to EFE news wire, the Summer 2006 Forecast from the state tourism office in Quintana Roo takes into account Cancun’s loss of nearly 7,000 hotel rooms due to damage from Hurricane Wilma last October as well as the expansion of hotel capacity along the nearby Mayan Riviera.
